thai, east village, cheap sake

in a city where there are dime-a-dozen thai restaurants, pat pong stands unique in many ways. for one, the food here is different and they serve more than just red and green curries. pat pong is located on 7th street between avenues 1 and a. their 'flat noodles with basil and chicken' is interesting. served in a clay pot with a lid to hold the aroma, the 'tofu in coconut curry' is one of the best preparations in the realm. on a cold winter night you can warm up with reasonably priced warm sake, and on a hot summer night you can warm up with the cold. ;-)

the ambience is typical of east village restaurants - tiny, dark, cozy and a little quirky. overall lovely food and decent service.

try their mango ide cream with raspberry and kiwi sauce.

fyi: its close to the 'stomp' show... and 'the blueman group' plays by as well!
