indian, east village, moderate food, good service, lots of cabbagetried this restaurant last night before going off to watch '
napoleon dynamite'. was in a great mood to try a mix of their menu. everything got off to a very disappointing start. the appetizer said a lot of fresh cucumbers and potatoes in a tangy sauce and all i got was a whole load of cabbage. of course, somewhere beneath the cabbage there were few slices of the promise. the soup was plain tomato puree with lentils (i think), coriander leaves, and more cabbage. they said it was a south indian specialty. i am a south indian, and i hadn't seen a trace of this concoction ever. i had planned on ordering some interesting entree, but i chose the chicken kurma, naan, and roti. thought that they couldn't screw that up! it turned out that i was right, but for more cabbage on the side. the dessert was kheer which i think they forgot to reheat, or maybe thats haveli style.

overall, things started off bad, got to a decent point by the time we were eating entree, and that was made possible by a good service.
