mediterranean, raw bar, pricey, east village, super ambience, great service, coat-check fee

we have been tromping around east village for a while and we pass through med all the time. finally we gave it a try. excellent ambience, great lighting, and bar seating. super nice cocktails, my favorite was el' camino. the charmoulla rubbed sea bass was interesting on a bed of cous cous, and so was the lobster ravioli. the service was friendly and the food was great, but we felt that it was a tad expensive for the portions, and for east village.

what came as a friendly offer to take care of our coats turned out to be $2 a piece "friendly" reminder after we got our coats back. it left us with a bad taste in our mouth, despite all the good things we had thought about med till then. who the hell charges for a coat-check in a restaurant?
