Mogador Cafe
location: 101. st. marks pl. new york.ny. 10009.
phone: 212.677.2226.
key: moroccan/north african/french influence, east village, moderate price, friendly, reservations

this has steadily been one of my favorite restaurants in the city. this extremley cozy cafe was recently renovated after they moved into the space that was originally east village bookstore. while their menu features cuisine that has moroccan, north african and french influence, i love their tagines with charmoulla sauce. this green sauce is not only spicy, but also totally flavorful. it is best eaten with cous cous, and if you are hungry, go for some basmati carbs. for the less adventurous, try their falafel.

the service at mogador is friendly and decently prompt. one thing that also is consistent with the food and the service is the waitress suggesting appetizers because of the delay in preparing entree. if you do end up waiting, ask for their tabouli, or tomato and garlic 'chutney' served with toasty pita. don't forget to try their hot sauce on the side. it is not the regular red pepper sauce you find in chinese restaurants!

fyi: while here check out the australian ice cream store, or mark down crif dogs for your after-drinks snacks.
